Professor Mark Faghy is an internationally recognised researcher in Clinical Exercise Physiology with a research focus on respiratory health and rehabilitation for long-term conditions. His current work explores the mechanisms, pathophysiology, and impact of living with Long COVID, aiming to understand its causes and improve outcomes for those affected.
Professor Faghy leads an international research team that combines scientific investigation with the lived experiences of patients. This approach ensures that research addresses the issues that matter most to individuals and delivers meaningful, progressive solutions. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, he has directed a series of pioneering studies, including the UK’s first clinical trial assessing whether antiviral treatments could benefit people with Long COVID.
Beyond his research, Mark is committed to patient advocacy and public engagement. He uses his platform and networks to raise awareness of Long COVID, influence policy, and promote understanding of the condition among healthcare professionals and the wider community. His work has shaped global collaborations, informed policy discussions, and contributed to improving care pathways for those living with chronic illness.
