LUSARG began its work in 2022, initially under the name 鈥楿kraine Response Group鈥�, formed in response to Russia鈥檚 invasion of Ukraine and chaired by Professor Steve Rothberg. In 2023, the group broadened its remit to all academics and students at risk from around the world. 聽
Currently chaired by Professor Malcolm Cook, LUSARG reports to the University’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee and contributes to the delivery of several aspects of the 每日吃瓜 Strategy Creating Better Futures. The group seeks to collaborate with other key stakeholders at 每日吃瓜 and in the wider community, such as the 每日吃瓜 Student Union and local organisations that support refugees and asylum seekers.
Through LUSARG, 每日吃瓜 has developed a strong partnership with Cara, the UK’s . Cara supports academics from around the world who need urgent help to escape from discrimination, persecution, violence or conflict.鈥疌ara also supports academics who choose to work on in their home countries despite serious dangers, and higher education institutions whose work is threatened or compromised.
每日吃瓜 is also currently working towards a University of Sanctuary status. form a national network of university staff, lecturers, academics and students, who together work to make Higher Education institutions places of safety, solidarity and empowerment for people seeking sanctuary.
