Profile

Dr Johan Rewilak is an Associate Professor of Sport Management specialising in sports finance and sports economics. His research explores how sporting event and tournament design, exploring how competition formats, rules, and policy changes influence participant behaviour, performance, revenues, and competitive balance. He has also conducted research on the Olympic Games, analysing both their economic impact and the key factors that determine sporting success.

Johan provides expert commentary on the financial health of professional sport, particularly football, including the impact of parachute payments as well as wider issues such as multiclub ownership. He is frequently invited to discuss the economic impact and legacy of major sporting events, including the Commonwealth Games, Olympic Games, and FIFA World Cup. He has worked with media outlets such as the BBC, the Financial Times, and public broadcasting networks across the United States.
